Salon Point of Sale & Checkout
Check out clients with cash, card, Card on File, or any other method. Sell products alongside services and manage refunds - all from one screen.
What is point of sale?
A salon point of sale is the checkout screen where you complete appointments, process payments across multiple methods, sell retail products, and issue refunds. Bella Booking's built-in POS pre-populates services from the appointment, accepts cash, manual card, Card on File, gift cards, and package sessions in a single transaction. Standalone sales handle walk-in product purchases. Every transaction feeds directly into your dashboard and reports.
A salon point of sale (POS) is the checkout system where you complete appointments, process payments, sell retail products, and issue refunds - all in one screen. The built-in point of sale turns every completed appointment into a smooth checkout experience. Add services and products in a single transaction. Accept cash, manual card, any other method, or charge a client's saved card via Card on File - or split one sale across several of them. Create standalone sales for walk-in product purchases without an appointment. Process refunds when needed with full audit tracking, and void a sale you rang up wrong. Every sale feeds directly into your reports and dashboard, giving you a real-time view of revenue.
What's included
Key capabilities of point of sale
Appointment checkout
Complete appointments and check out in one step. Services - and any products added to the appointment ahead of time - are pre-populated from the appointment. Add products or apply loyalty reward discounts.
One consistent payment picker
Cash, Card (Manual), Other, or Card on File - the same four options at Record Deposit, Checkout and Create Sale. Card on File processes a real Stripe payment; the other three are recorded for reconciliation. Set a payment method order under Settings > Card terminals and checkout opens on the method at the top (Card on File still comes first when the client has a saved card).
Split payments across tenders
Settle one sale with more than one payment - $60 cash and the rest on card, a voucher plus the difference, whatever the client hands over. Add each payment, watch the balance count down to zero, and complete the sale. Gift cards, packages, memberships and client credit come off the bill first, so you only split what is genuinely left. One receipt, one line per payment, and each payment counted in its own column in your Sales summary report.
Product sales
Sell retail products alongside services or as standalone transactions - your team can add products to any appointment ahead of time, not just at checkout, securing the stock until the client arrives. Stock levels update automatically when products are sold.
Standalone sales
Create sales without an appointment. Perfect for walk-in product purchases or retail-only transactions.
Custom items
Charge a one-off item without adding it to your catalogue - describe it, price it, credit a team member. Tax is handled the same way it is for products, and custom items show as their own row in Sales summary.
Refund management
Process full or partial refunds with a reason. Card on File refunds are processed automatically through Stripe; cash and card refunds are recorded for reconciliation. A partial refund can also hand back what the refunded lines used - a package or membership session, loyalty points, a referral reward, a first-visit or birthday offer - chosen line by line. Your client gets a Refund issued message with their amended receipt, and a per-refund Notify the client toggle keeps a quiet correction quiet.
Correcting a checkout: void a sale
When a checkout was simply wrong - the wrong service, the wrong client - Void sale reverses the whole thing in one go. Payments go back, everything the sale used comes back (gift-card balance, client credit, package and membership sessions, loyalty points, rewards, product stock), and the appointment returns to unpaid so you can correct it and check out again. The voided sale stays in your Sales list marked Voided, keeping its invoice number and the reason you gave, and it leaves your sales and tax reports entirely - it is not a sale and not a refund.
Named card terminals
Run any EFTPOS machine alongside Bella. Name your machines at Settings → Card terminals and every in-person card payment says which machine took it. With one or two named terminals each machine is its own row in the payment picker; from three, Card (Manual) asks which machine until you set a payment method order - at checkout, deposits, client credit top-ups and gift card sales. The Sales summary report shows what each machine took, refunded and netted, counted on the day the money moved, so each terminal balances against its own settlement at end of day. Recording only: payments are still processed on your own machine, and the client's receipt never shows the name.
Late-cancellation & no-show fees
When a booking is protected by a card on file, charge your late-cancellation or no-show fee straight to the saved card when you cancel or mark a no-show: a percentage of the service total or a fixed amount.
Send a payment link
Ask a client to pay their appointment balance online instead of at the counter. Send a link from the appointment - they log in to their online booking portal and pay the live balance by card, and the appointment checks itself out automatically once paid.
Sale notes
Add internal notes to any sale for reference. Track special arrangements, discounts given, or other details.
Sales history
View complete sales history with filtering by date, team member, payment method, and status. Click any sale to see full details.
Real-time reporting
Every sale instantly flows into your dashboard and reports. See revenue, service breakdowns, product sales, and team member performance.
Digital tipping
Clients can leave tips for team members after checkout via the online booking portal. Tips are processed through Stripe and both you and the team member are notified. Part of the review-and-tip flow, which comes with client reviews - a Professional-plan feature.

Frequently asked questions
Can I sell products without an appointment?
Yes. Create a standalone sale from the Sales page to sell retail products or any items without needing an appointment.
What payment methods are supported?
Card, cash, and Card on File. Card and cash are recorded for reconciliation. Card on File charges a client's saved card via Stripe - a real payment with automatic refund support. A client can also pay with more than one of these on a single sale - split payments let you take part in cash and the rest on card, on one receipt.
How do refunds work?
Open the original sale and process a full or partial refund with a reason. For Card on File payments, refunds are processed automatically through Stripe and returned to the client's card. For cash and card payments, refunds are recorded for reconciliation. A partial refund can also hand back what the refunded lines used - a package or membership session, loyalty points, a reward - line by line. The client gets a Refund issued message with their amended receipt unless you turn Notify the client off for that refund.
Can I undo a sale I rang up wrong?
Yes. Open the sale and click Void sale. The whole checkout reverses in one go - a card payment goes back to the client's card, a cash payment comes off your records, and everything the sale used comes back, including gift-card balance, client credit, sessions, points, rewards and product stock. The appointment returns to unpaid so you can change what was sold and check out again. The voided sale stays in your Sales list marked Voided with its invoice number and your reason, and it leaves your sales and tax reports entirely.
Do product stock levels update automatically?
Yes. When you sell a product through the point of sale, stock levels are reduced automatically. Sort the products list by stock quantity to bring the lowest counts to the top, and anything low or out of stock is flagged there.
Can I see which team member made each sale?
Yes. Every sale is linked to the team member who performed the service or processed the sale. The Team member sales report shows revenue per team member.
Can I charge for something that isn't a product or service in my catalogue?
Yes - add a Custom item on a standalone sale, or on an appointment when you book it, edit it or check it out. Type a description, set a price, and optionally credit a team member; no need to create a permanent product or service for a one-off charge like a late-arrival fee or gift wrapping.
